Update on data stolen in hack at supplier

We previously notified you that our  supplier AddComm has been hacked. It is currently clear that data for a number of residents and businesses in our area has also been accessed. We are very sorry that this has happened.

In most cases, this involves the name, address and place of residence

Unfortunately, personal data was also stolen for a limited number of individuals, such as the Citizen Service Number (BSN) or bank account number.

The individuals and businesses affected will receive a letter from us this week

This letter sets out exactly what data is involved. We also advise affected individuals and businesses to watch out for fake messages and phishing e-mails.

We are sending post again from this week

This will take place using a new secure connection. If you are unsure whether the message is from us, we would advise you is to call us.

Watch out for fake messages and phishing e-mails

The criminals did not steal any e-mail addresses or phone numbers in this hack. It is nonetheless important to always pay attention to the following.

  • Do not open e-mails from unknown senders.
  • Do not click on links in e-mails from unknown senders.
  • Never open attachments in e-mails from people you do not know.
  • Do not share personal information with people you do not know via e-mail, text or phone.
  • Make sure the message really has come from that sender. Do the same for post you receive through the letterbox. And check that the company’s bank account number is correct.
  • Pay particular attention to messages that appear to come from your bank. If you are unsure, check with your bank whether the message is genuine.
  • Also watch out for scam phone calls, such as from an ’employee of your bank’. If a criminal has information about you, you are more likely to believe it is genuine.
