RBG is visiting and helping clients with payment problems

The RBG helps clients who are struggling to pay. The RBG does this in various ways. For some time the RBG has been working with home visitors who visit these clients. They offer assistance and they work with the clients to find solutions.

Home visit if contact fails

A home visit takes place if the RBG cannot get in touch with the client. Home visitors mainly visit people with an income at welfare level or students. They can often get their debt cancelled. This means they will have to pay less.

What does a home visitor do?

A home visitor discusses the payment arrears with the client. They work with the client to find solutions. A home visitor seeks permission to apply for debt relief on the client’s behalf. The RBG needs the client’s consent to cancel the debt. Clients can also get a personal arrangement to pay in instalments. The home visitor also ensures that bailiffs don’t call for the time being. And if the client has an administrator, the home visitor contacts them. If the client has further debts, the home visitor refers them to the municipality for further help.

Crossing language barriers

Clients often do not speak Dutch. Home visitors then use a translation app and a QR code. That means they can still get in touch with the client. The QR code provides information in 13 languages

Different from bailiffs

Home visitors are there to help. There are no additional charges associated with this. And they do not confiscate goods such as a car. A bailiff is allowed to do that. A home visitor’s goal is to help and reassure people.

A home visitor’s experiences

A home visitor explains: ‘We help a lot of people. They have their debt cancelled or get a personal arrangement. This gives them peace of mind. People are often relieved. They don’t need to worry about the bailiffs. And at the end of the process they no longer have arrears with the RBG.’

‘The best thing about this job is when the client is at home and we can really help someone move forward.’
